THE BIG BAND JAM 2023
April 28th - 30th 2023
@ the Georgetown Waterfront Park at 31st Street and Wisconsin Avenue, NW
The non-profit Blues Alley Jazz Society is pleased to announce the 18th edition of the BIG BAND JAM! in its continuing pursuit of our nation’s indigenous musical art form. Over the past eighteen (18) months we have identified our genre, our artist-in-residence, our tribute, and our educational component that will propel this art form forward. While the nation has not entirely recovered from the travails, of the past two year’s pandemic, we are prepared to plan ahead with schools performing publicly as a part of our overall Blues Alley Jazz Society programming during “Jazz Appreciation Month”.
The BIG BAND JAM! will be limited to six (6) high schools on April 28th and six colleges or universities on April 29th. Professional performers will participate on Sunday, April 30th on “International Jazz Day” and our featured ensemble will be the US Navy Commodores big band. Sets will be restricted to forty (40) minutes each, professional adjudicators will judge, but any awarding will be restricted to our “Collegiate Jazz Day” on Saturday, April 29th. All performances will be simulcast via the Blues Alley Jazz websites throughout the day and archived afterwards.
DISCLOSURE: Due to the large numbers of past last-minute cancellations, Blues Alley is requesting a one-time only registration fee in the amount of $50.00 from each school to compensate our non-profit organization to cover our administrative expenses. For further information or inquiries please contact ProgramDirector@BluesAlley.org.
